CALIFORNIA INCREASES MINIMUM WAGE


Gov. Brown signs new law increasing minimum wage to $15/hour by 2022 for employers with more than 25 employees and by 2023 for smaller employers:

  • On January 1, 2017, minimum wage will increase to $10.50;

  • On January 1, 2018, minimum wage will increase to $11.00;

  • On January 1, 2019, minimum wage will increase to $12.00;

  • On January 1, 2020, minimum wage will increase to $13.00;

  • On January 1, 2021, minimum wage will increase to $14.00;

  • On January 1, 2022, minimum wage will increase to $15.00.

Smaller employers will have an extra year to catch up.

The minimum wage in Santa Monica for employers with more than 25 employees will go up quicker due to the city's recent ordinance:

  • On July 1, 2016, the minimum wage will increase to $10.50;

  • On July 1, 2017, the minimum wage will increase to $12.00;

  • On July 1, 2018, the minimum wage will increase to $13.25;

  • On July 1, 2019, the minimum wage will increase to $14.25;

  • On July 1, 2020, the minimum wage will increase to $15.00.

Like the rest of California, smaller employers will have an extra year to catch up.
